It makes no difference where carbon dioxide is thrown into the air, mixing in the atmosphere means that the effect on world climate is the same, we should therefore not look for local solutions.  

 

The following simplified analysis shows what this means.

 

Assume that Australia builds a large Solar Cell Farm, cost $20 of which $10 is import of solar cells, probably from China.   A Dirty Coal Plant costs $5 and a Wind Turbine $10.

 

CASE 1: Aust. Solar Farm, India and China each build a Dirty Coal Plant.

Aust Cost $20 of which $10 exported to buy solar cells.
India Cost $5   
China Cost $5      
TOTAL Cost $30       World Pollution 2xDirty Coal

 

CASE 2: Aust builds a Dirty Coal Plant and sends $5 each to India and China to subsidise their building of Wind Farms.

Aust Cost $15 includes export of $10 subsidy
India Cost $5
China Cost $5
TOTAL Cost $25      World Pollution 1xDirty Coal

 

Australia saves $5 and world saves Pollution of 1xDirty Coal plant.
