The Waxlip Orchid, Glossodia major, is common along the coast and ranges of NSW, and other states.
The flower stands on a slender stalk, growing 12 to 32cm tall. There may be 1 or 2 flowers, rarely 3. The flower is usually purple, but can sometimes be white. Fine hairs on the petals can be seen in the photo below.
This example was found behind the Mandeni sign, at the turn-off from Sapphire Coast Drive, at coordinates 07 60 539, 59 17 823.
