The Nodding Greenhood, Pterostylis nutans, grows along the coast and ranges. It flowers between April and October, with this example seen in early September.

Features which distinguish the Nodding Greenhood from other Greenhood orchids are:

  • The hood opening is underneath, so that it appears as ahead nodding downwards
  • There are transparent sections on the upper part of the hood
  • The free points project forwards, just past the hood

The Nodding Greenhood flower stands upto 30cm tall, with a flower 2.5cm long. There is a rosette of 3 to 6 leaves, each 2 to 9 cm long and 1 to 2cm wide.
