The Maroonhood, Pterostylis pedunculata, is a terrestrial herb in the Orchidaceae family. It is very closely related to the Greenhood Orchids, which are also Pterostylis genus.

Maroonhoods growth to 25cm tall, with a flower about 1.5cm long, erect, with white & green stripes on the hood and distinctly maroon coloured (reddish brown or black) features. The galea (nose), lateral sepals (whiskers) and sinus (lower lip) all have the maroon colouring. A distinctive feature is the deeply V-shaped sinus, as opposed to a sinus that protrudes fowards.

Approximately 20 individuals were seen lining the XC track, alongside Ford Creek, from the fire-trail to Bush Camp west towards tank T11. Mandeni Map coordinates approx 19 500, 58 700. Click on any thumbnail to download a higher resolution image (T. Hastings 9/9/2010).
