The Termite, Nasutitermes exitiosus, builds a mound on the ground upto 75cm tall, a key difference to the tree termite, Nasutitermes walkeri, which nests in trees. The rhinoceros -like pointed head is a characteristic of the Nasutitermes species.

They are common in NSW and ACT, and potentially destructive to buildings. This example was seen in the forest west of Manna Park, near map coordinates 58 200, 19 100. The grid squares seen are 1mm apart vertically.
