The wavy lower edge of the wings and horizontal stripe are characteristic of the Picture-wing Moth Family, Thyrididae. Most have light dark stripe, but this one has light stripe. It is most likely one of the Aglaopus species, but does not match any available photographs.

The larvae feed on Eucalypt leaves. The caterpillar lives in a rolled up leaf, pupates there, and emerges as the Moth. If disturbed the caterpillar exudes a green liquid from its mouth.

The Picture-wing Moth shown here was found on the wall of the cottage at Manna Park, after it was attracted to an outside light. Click the picture to download a higher resolution image (T.Hastings September 2009)
