The Red and Blue Beetle, Dicranolaius bellulus, is an active predator that hunts and feed on eggs, larvae and other slow-moving insects. They also feed on pollen and are sometimes seen on flowers. This example found amongst leaf litter on the fire trail opposite Bush camp, at map coordinates 55 576, 19 095.
They are categorised within the Order Coleoptera, which includes all Beetles, - in the Superfamily Cleridae, most of which are active predators with strong legs and large eyes - in the Sub-order Polyphaga, who don’t have the top of their third leg fixed to the abdomen - in the Family Melyridae, which includes soft-winged flower beetles.
