To make it easier to describe the property we have given our creeks names, these are not historical names but are fairly logical and easy to remember.
Ford Creek
Ford Creek runs between the Manna Park poo ponds and the Bush Camp, crosses Red Hill Road at the Ford, then runs through Mandeni to the west of Racecourse Paddock and then through large culvert pipes under Sapphire Coast Drive. It then runs through Woodbine Park where it joins Sandy Beach Creek. We have no dam on this creek because there is nowhere to build one.
Hostel Creek
Hostel Creek runs around the side of the Hostel, under the wooden bridge on Red Hill Road and usually disappears in Mandeni’s paddock, in floods it builds up against Sapphire Coast Drive and then joins Ford Creek at the culverts.
Tip Creek
Tip Creek starts to the north of Merimbula’s rubbish tip just up Sapphire Coast Drive from Magic Mountain. It runs under an old wooden bridge on Red Hill Road and then becomes the main source of water for New Dam. It used to form a swampy area on the northern part of Mandeni alongside Sapphire Coast Drive.
These creeks normally only run for a few days after flood rains and then quickly subside to a series of shallow water holes, Tip Creek feeds the series of dams within Mandeni; New Dam, BBQ Dam and Big Dam, if anything is left over it flows through large culverts under Sapphire Coast Drive. After flood periods in the 1990’s young eels,(elvers), migrated from near the Coral Sea and up the flooded gully to New Dam.
