Diamond Python Carpet Snake Morelia spilota PDF Print E-mail

diamond_python_thmbIn 2006 a large Diamond Python spent a week in the grevillea at the back of the hostel while shedding its skin.   It also sheds its eyelids which become opaque – see “python eye” picture, this renders the python almost blind during the process.    We have given sanctuary to another Diamond Python from a neighbouring property where the owner was very keen to get rid of it.

Diamond Pythons are quite harmless and are great rat catchers, in the early days of European settlement they were encouraged to live around homesteads for vermin control.
