We caught so many turtles while trying to catch eels in our dams that we redesigned the trap to prevent them from entering it. We have also added little “fences” to the 150 mm diameter trickle pipes on our dams to prevent turtles being caught and drowned when the dam overflows.
Turtles are occasionally seen wandering from one dam to another. They are carnivorous but harmless, but please do not pick them up, if you do they might squirt you with a terrible smelling “juice”.
