When it takes off with a piece of meat in its beak, it immediately transfers the meat to its feet for the flight back to the nest site. It then hangs the morsel in the fork of a small bush and immediately returns for more. Later it will tear the meat into small strips with its very sharp beak – hence the name Butcherbird.
